Explore the Lost Sierra

The Butte Bungalow is in "downtown" Sierra City. Our quiet community runs on the North Yuba River at the base of the Sierra Buttes. Don't get us wrong, we love Lake Tahoe, but if you want to avoid the traffic and experience the super magnificent, come to our little corner of the forest.

The websites below will give you a solid feel for the communities and outdoor adventures that you can enjoy while staying at the Butte Bungalow!

Mountain Communities

Only an hour from bustling Truckee and Nevada City, the small towns in our mountain community each offer something unique in terms of terrain, nature, adventure, food, camping – and all have a rich California history to experience.

Trails & Water

We've got boating & fishing. We've got rock jumps, waterfalls & crystal clear swimming holes. You can even pan for gold! Sierra City sits at the crossroads of an abundant array of pristine California waters and many are connected by easily accessible trails. During a one-week trip to our cabin, you can hike a different trail and see new body of water each day!

Mountain Biking

Downieville and the surrounding areas have some of the most epic mountain biking in California. Come for the festivals or to explore the trails on your own.
